Installing and Configuring Entrinsic Connect

Using a desktop/laptop web browser, go to https://app.entrinsic.io (or click on the Login button at the top-right side of this page) and register your account.

On successful sign up, you will receive an email asking you to verify your account. Once this is done, you can login for the first time.

Set up your main device.  For example, an interactive visitor kiosk can also be monitoring for movement and recording snapshots, as well as looking for vehicle registration plates (ANPR) to allow visitors to gain access to your property/land.

Configure your Theme and PINs. You can always do this part later.

Professional and Enterprise subscribers can configure Gate Opening settings and initial vehicle number plates. Set these up now or later.

Set up your snapshot schedule, which by default takes a still image every 10 minutes. You can change this as needed. Paid subscribers can set up movement videos which are recorded automatically when movement is detected, by default recording from 5 seconds before the movement occurs.

Professional & Enterprise subscribers can set up additional devices, and they can work together. For example, a ‘dedicated’ device can act as an ANPR camera. This could be, for example, a rugged Android device for outdoor use. As well as ANPR, it can be detecting movement and sending snapshot notifications, and also can act as a CCTV camera which you can connect to on-demand. The detection of a number plate using a low-mounted, rear-facing device can trigger a ‘Welcome’ message on an alternative kiosk positioned, for example, on an entry post or wall at your property entrance; it could even trigger another kiosk, located elsewhere, to activate a relay over bluetooth. This could be particularly useful if you wanted to activate a garage door where the electrics for it (and therefore the relay) are not positioned near the kiosk itself. Finally, a chain could take place where the triggering of one relay can trigger another device to trigger its own relay - the scenario perhaps being opening a gate, and then a garage or bay door in turn.

Now is a good time to download the Entrinsic Connect app. You'll need this to respond to people interacting with the kiosk, as well as for convenient configuration of the kiosk and viewing logs, snapshots and videos.

Once you have downloaded the Entrinsic Connect app, log into it using your usual credentials (the same you used to login to the web portal).

You may want additional 'responders' such as family members or colleagues to interact with visitors to your home or business and potentially have access to the kiosk's configuration settings. Firstly each responder should download the Entrinsic Connect App as above. You can set up multiple users (depending on your subscription level) to connect to your kiosk, and after you add their details they will be provided with a link to register and set their password. To add a user, click the 'Users' button in the left hand navigation of the web portal, and you are presented with a dialog where you can select the type of user (Admin or regular user) and then for regular users, which device(s) they have access to.

There are two different ways to configure responders depending on your scenario:

  • Single home use. In this case you can set up any number of users to be 'responders'. These users can optionally be given administrative access to the kiosk and you can control if they have access to the camera (CCTV) on demand, or only when on a video call (responding to a visitor).
  • Multi-tenant. When you have a multi-tenant system, such as a gated community, apartment block, student accommodation or business premises with multiple companies, for example, who are sharing the kiosk, you will want groups of people who are able to access the kiosk at the right time, without interfering with other groups. Additionally, you may utilise features such as PIN access and ANPR vehicle number plates that are specific to those groups. This is where the concept of an Alias comes in. You may set up any number of aliases (depending on your subscription level), each consisting of any number of users. An alias might be 'Flat 7' or 'ABC company'. When someone visits the kiosk, or their number plate has been recognised which has been previously associated with that alias, then only the users attached to that alias are notified.

Acquire a suitable kiosk device(s). These could be one of the following:

  • Android tablet - ideal for interactive kiosk.
  • iPad - as above. We recommend Android over iOS (Apple devices) for commercial use.
  • Android phone - ideal for non-interactive movement detection, CCTV, or a small entry device or PIN entry pad.
  • iPhone - as above

Using any of the above, ensure it has a Wifi or data connection and then download the Entrinsic Connect Kiosk app.

From the web portal's dashboard you will find the login details for your kiosk. Use these to login.

During login, if you had opted to use Bluetooth this is where you configure it. Click here more details on Bluetooth set up.

Also during login, you are given an option to save your username & password to the device. This is an important feature to allow you to ensure the device will always login with the same details if it were to restart. It also means you can maintain your kiosk, such as closing it, restarting the device, upgrading the OS and so on, and easily reload the app without having to locate login details.

It is essential that your device remains on, clear and visible for your visitors, or if it is being used for continuous non-interactive surveillance (CCTV, movement detection or ANPR). Notifications must not get in front of the Kiosk app which can cause it to go offline. It is essential that, given the kiosk is potentially accessible to the public, that it is locked down and password protected.

  • Disable all notifications - ensure no sensitive notifications come up unexpectedly.
  • You must protect the device with a passcode to ensure that locked down apps cannot be exited, thereby allowing access to the underlying device features, as well as protecting the device in the case of theft or tampering.
  • Ensure brightness is set to high and turn off any auto-dimming features.
  • Lock down the device to stop unwanted interference or closing of the app - for Android you can either enable 'App Pinning' or for professional users, you can install a companion app (see below), and for iOS use 'Guided Access' mode.
  • You may also choose to install remote device management, such as TeamViewer or other MDM solutions. This may be important if you envisage needing to access the device remotely to install updates or troubleshoot, especially if you are commercially installing Entrinsic. We recommend TeamViewer for Android.
  • Turn the volume up as needed - depending on the amount of background noise you may need to turn it up to top volume.
  • Android users should search for the battery optimisation/usage settings within Apps (in Settings), and ensure battery is NOT optimised (change to Unrestricted) to reduce instances of the app being unexpectedly closed

Important:
If you are installing your device for commercial use or in a public setting, we recommend Android over iOS. Android devices are lower cost and offer more choice, and most importantly can be effectively and fully locked down. To enhance app stability and security, we offer an additional companion app which can be deployed (side loaded) to the device with special security privileges. This will not only lock down the device entirely, preventing any malicious tampering, but it will also restart the kiosk app automatically in the event it crashes or unloads due to background updates or OS-enforced app memory optimisation. To obtain the companion app, available for Professional subscribers only, the Entrinsic Support team will provide you with a download link and deployment instructions. Contact us for more information.

Having configured your device and tested it to ensure it behaves how you want it to, you are ready to mount the device.

  • If you have selected the ANPR option, the camera from your device must be able to see the vehicles arriving through either the front or rear device camera. If you cannot mount it in such a way that it can read vehicle plates, this is where you might want to link a second device to read the number plates. In fact, you can have any number of devices (depending on your subscription level) simultaneously monitoring for number plates. There are many low-cost, entry level rugged Android devices available on the market which are perfect for these non-interactive kiosks.
  • You will require a power source - the device's battery will not last long when the screen is continuously on, so you will need to permanently power it.
  • Physically mount and secure device to your requirements and consider the risk of theft/tampering if in a public area. There are many options for mounting using secure brackets.
  • Optionally physically restrict access to side/power buttons with kiosk mounting kits as required, if you wish to prevent any tampering or misuse. There are many kiosk mounting solutions available if you wish to do this. Professional & Enterprise subscribers may contact Entrinsic support for a robust Watchdog app, ensuring full lockdown of the devices (Android only).
  • Optionally waterproof or otherwise protect device from weather damage if located outdoors. There are many waterproof or water resistant cases available, or you can purchase a 'rugged' device designed to be used or mounted outdoors. It is recommended you install a weather shield - a perspex housing that sits around or above the device to protect from heavy rainfall, or where there are trees dropping debris around the device.
